Beatles concert - Shea Stadium New York, August 23, 1966 - John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr

$4.75 to $5.75 bucks to see the show!
These shots were transparencies taken on Kodachrome II, using my old Agfa SLR. (Agfaflex III - 50mm lens) purchased in '65. Excellent wee Zeiss lens.
These are scans of the original slides.
Obviously the quality of these pics leaves a lot to be desired, having no telefoto lens, but I wanted to share with the PBase community and any Beatles fans out there.

ABOUT THIS CONCERT: As you'll find on the internet, there are very few images out there from the 1966 concert, but lots from the pervious year's show that was filmed. No such film has ever surfaced from the '66 show, making these photos rare.

As a result I've been contacted by several organizations and individuals about using these photos at no cost for academic publication and also from some other organizations who have negotiated a user license.

I was delighted to be contacted by a writer and producer named John Kane who wrote for permission to to use some images,he has written a deeply researched book called "Last Seat in the House" about John Henley, the man who provided his revolutionary sound system for the first time at Shea Stadium for the Beatles '66, and later, the huge sound system for Woodstock in 1969. He is today considered to be the father of concert sound as we know it. In 1965 The Beatles sang through the tinny tannoy speakers used by baseball announcers. In 1966 the p.a. was a monster as can be seen in my photos, the big boxes next to the stage. The girls were screaming for sure, but because of John Henley I clearly remember hearing the music and the singing over it all. Thank you John!

Enjoy. Tg
