IT IS HAPPENING AGAIN!!!

Fort Worth, TX

Okay, I've never seen this behavior before until about a month or so ago when I caught a squirrel laying flat on the ground. Happened again today. Guess they are just hot and are trying to find a cool spot. If I had to go around with a fur coat on even in the summer, I may have to do that as well. Okay, now that isn't a pretty picture. Forget I said that.

Ohhhhh Cindi!
I had never seen a squirrel do this before!
This is too funny and at the same time,
poor little too hot thing!
This is a fantastic catch.

nah . . it's just their possesive nature . . . he's really saying "MINE! It's all MINE!"

Oh bless! Yes I often think about how animals & birds feel in hot weather....can't unzip their fur & feathers.

I don't think I have seen that behavior either. Practicing to be a rug mabye ;-)

Cute and amusing, but he's just cooling off. Some of our birds here do a similar trick on hot days by spreading their wings while lying spread out - but usually on cool grass ... perhaps he missed that bit in "cooling-off 101"!

From the thumbnail I thought you were taking road kill pics.! Did ya drug him? (Some people will go to any length to get a good pic ; ) )

I believe you've stumbled upon one of the new transient
squirrels.
They come into your town, hang out near the downtown
area's parks and put out their tiny paws, begging for
spare nuts.
This one is just on a break and working on his suntan
most likely.
: )

Fantastic catch! Really cute.

LOL Cindi, Ade thinks you're photographing roadkill. That's a riot. I have some pictures of these squirrels doing this too, they do it when it's really hot and so do the dogs sometimes. I guess it's a cooling off process. Love your shot of it. GMV
