PICKING UP HIS FOOD

Trinity Park, Ft. Worth, TX

Went back out to the park today and went back into the woods. Saw a lady out there and she feeds the Feral cats that are out there. All of them have been neutered/spayed and have had their shots and there's a community that takes care of them. Well, when she feeds them the raccoons come out in large numbers. I saw 21 yesterday when I got out of my car. Didn't see any from the road today but saw a little trail so I walked down it and met the lady there. While we were talking this guy was eating some cat food and picking up the morsels that he wanted. I saw about 14 raccoons today. The cats will fight them for the food and the cats always win. I have a few pictures of the cats with the coons.....not something you see everyday. Will be posting them in another gallery soon along with new ones as I continue to go out there in the future.

Hmm, sometime we forget the cats bowl out at night, and raccoons come by, the darn cat never fought, she just cowards on a ciment railing, and wait till the raccoons leave. I never thought cats could beat raccoons.

That is a great shot, love wlid animals, even if they're this tame. We have nothing really like them over here.

great capture of your buddy!

Great shot of this little visitor! Just watch your fingers - even our little hamster's playful bite is a tad sore so goodness knows how painful this fella's could be!

We must care for our little wild creatures that we share the earth with. When they're hungry they let you get very close.

Great close up of this little guy! Do be careful around them. They can turn on you. I know some people that raise one and it was fine for a long time, but it did end up turning on them and they had to get rid of it. Looking forward to the other pics :0) V

Love those little paws as he eats his food. Unbelievable that you have seen so many there. Do be careful in case of rabies...

Great shot, very cute little critters. My aunt in Tyler, Tx. had one many years back. That's where we learned, when they lick your finger, they are washing their food !!!

Nice capture. His hands are so much like ours. I do agree with Walter on feeding them.
Wolfgang Bluhm04-Sep-2009 00:21
Ever since raccoons stole our best tomatoes, we don't consider them cute any more! :-) Can't wait to see the raccoon/cat photos!

Interesting find! Great that you could get so close!

This little critter is awfully cute, but be careful not to get bit. You don't know if they have rabies.
Your photo is fabulous! V.

cute critter!

Wonderful shot Cindi, I like the pose. As much as I would like to sympathize with feeding racoons, it's bad to do this. It gets them dependent on food they should not eat and causes huge problems with overpopulation.
J. Scott Coile03-Sep-2009 23:43
The Racoons are so neat. Love those little hands.
Tom Briggs03-Sep-2009 23:34
They're interesting animals, Cindi. We used to have one that would get into our garbage can, dig out old ears of corn, and then sit there looking in the window at us while he used his 'hands' to clean up the ears of corn.
