This gallery provides a momento from a brief visit to the Manaus region in July 2010, during which we visited Presidente Figueiredo, north of Manaus and Itacoatiara, east of the city. These two destinations offer a different suite of birds, terra firme species at the former, and várzea specials at the second. Unfortunately, due to a lot of rain and poor light throughout the five days, conditions were far from perfect for photographer and birding alike. However, I did manage to capture a few worthwhile images, including quite a reasonable range of várzea birds for just one morning in this habitat. In this respect, Itacoatiara offers a very cheap alternative to many other sites in central Amazonia for accessing such habitat.
