Teretistris fornsi
Endemic to central and eastern Cuba, for visiting birders this attractive bird is most easily found on the cays of the Sabana-Camagüey archipelago, where this photograph was taken. Note the curiously downcurved culmen, which is a feature of the genus, especially of this species. Orlando Garrido recently described a new race of this species from the Pico Turquino, in the Sierra Maestra (where Castro hid out during his struggle with the former president Batista), but it seems very doubtful whether such variation is truly diagnosable.
