Driving the Vrsic Pass through the Julian Alps with 50 hairpin switchbacks. Unbelievably beautiful mountains. The road was built in 1915 during WWI by 10,000 Russian POWs of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Several hundred died from illness and exposure. In 1916 an avalanche killed hundreds more.
