NGC 1579 is sometimes called the Northern Trifid because of its resemblance to M20 the Trifid Nebula.
It is located near the California Nebula in the constellation Perseus.
Estimated to be at a distance of 2000 light-years away from Earth and about 3 ly across.
The Reddish orange glow is not from Hydrogen alpha gas but from an extremely young and massive embedded star which emit red light.
