The strip of land in the middle distance, lit by sunlight, with two bushes on uneven ground marks the site of this border castle.Built in stone, the knoll has been scarped into a ringwork 47m. long by 28m. wide, with a ditch and an outer bank.It was probably an outpost of Clun marking the otherwise uncertain border between Shropshire and the Welsh district of Maelienydd and is likely to have been built by Helias de Say c1142AD after he slew two of the sons of Madog ap Idnerth,of Maelienydd.Note:It was initially built in 1142AD as an earthwork, probably not in stone, until about 100 years later.
