Looking East to Steel Rigg and Crag Lough

Steel Rigg,Northumberland,UK.

Hadrian's Wall,wasn't just a Wall,there was a 15 ft.deep,30ft.wide trench dug infront of it,where possible.The ditch can clearly be seen in this image,still a formidable obstacle,even now.Obviously,where the Wall ran along cliffs,as in the middle distance of this pic,a ditch wasn't necessary.
