A nearby wall plaque states that the Norman knight Widard,apparently featured in the Bayeaux Tapestry,and who fought at the Battle of Hastings in 1066AD,had a manor at Farningham,recorded in Domesday in 1086AD.He is shown carrying his shield up high,just as in the tapestry.On the tapestry he is recorded as "HIC EST WIDARD",here is Widard.
