Montréal, Canada (July 2008)

Montréal is a vibrant, cosmopolitan and culturally diverse city of two million people located in Québec Province on the St. Lawrence River. Founded by French explorers more than 350 years ago, it is one of the oldest cities in North America, its history being a rich backdrop to a vibrant multicultural life. Historical divisions between the French and English influences have abated somewhat, although some still remain today. Montréal’s harsh winters are made tolerable by its Underground City of restaurants, stores and walkways that are connected to the Métro. Summers are enlivened by festivals, street fairs, excellent international restaurants, cafés and a sizzling nightlife. Old Montréal contains some of the city’s most interesting attractions and historic architecture. Adjacent to Old Montréal is the sparkling riverside area known as the Old Port. Montréal’s history, beauty, cosmopolitan flavor and “joie de vivre,” make it a truly worthwhile destination.
