My fellow tourists walking towards the plane taking us to Kaieteur Falls and Orinduik Falls. |
The tour was conducted by Evergreen Adventures using this Trans Guyana Airways prop plane. |
The pilot at the controls. |
I sat in front next to the pilot, so I was in facing the controls of the plane. |
View of Georgetown, below, after the plane took off. |
Shortly after passing over Georgetown, we were flying over farmland. |
Soon, we were flying over the clouds. |
Interesting cloud formations as seen through the windshield of the plane. |
Our first view of Kaieteur Falls as the plane approached. |
It is located in Kaieteur National Park. It is 226 meters (741 ft.) high. |
It is not the highest, but it is one of the most powerful falls in the world. |
Our tour guide who took us to the falls when the plane landed. |
The guide explained that these are carnivorous plants. |
Close-up of the plants. They consume insects. |

Good advice, considering there was no guardrail! |

Walking back from the falls, we spotted this termite's nest. Better here, than next to your home! |
Next, we flew to the smaller Orinduik Falls. |
Orinduik Falls lie on the Ireng River, a highland river on the border with Brazil. |
Close-up of the falls, which are not high, but a wide, multi-tiered series of cascades. |
The appeal of Orinduik Falls is that one can go under swimming in some of the pools under the falls, a great way to cool off! |
Me under the cascading Orinduik Falls. It was refreshing, but I felt like I was getting water boarded! |
