Blacktail deer (Odocoileus hermionus) are commonly known as mule deer because of their large ears.
The primary predators of mule deer, or mulies, include mountain lions, wolves, grizzly bears, coyotes, golden eagles, and humans.
This group of five was in east Idaho, near the 7,014’ summit of the Lewis and Clark Lost Trail Pass,
on the Continental Divide and state border with Montana.
