Two human values come through in this image -- reassurance and boredom. You deftly steer between the two -- the child holds on to her fathers leg as if to prove to herself that he is still there for her, and his hand on her arm offers proof that he is. Meanwhile, the expression on both faces are utterly blank, overwhelmed by a day that proves a trainride too long. This image tells several stories at once -- too much Christmas, a need to feel safe in an otherwise alien world, and a father's innate protective response. Good job, Rose.
This is wonderful! I didn't see this on your camera that day. To the girl it's probably just a long trainride, and she looks dressed up for Santa, so perhaps she waits patiently to arrive. Great natural expressions on both Dad and daughter.
