People assemble in Hoboken, New Jersey to gaze across the Hudson River at the high-pressure light beam accidentally released in lower Manhattan after a construction crew punctured a light main. The crew was digging the foundation pit of a new building. Two construction workers were taken to the hospital suffering from temporary blindness. A spokesman for New York Light said that the light conduit should be repaired within 24 hours. Damage to painted surfaces in the area will likely run into the millions of dollars.
