01/07/2018 - WHITMAN, MASSACHUSETTS (PLYMOUTH COUNTY) - Around 1735 hours on the evening of Sunday, January 7, 2018 the Whitman Fire Department received a report of a gas pipe leak at 252 School Street. Engine-243, Ambulance-247 and Car-3 responded. Companies arrived to find an active gas in the building, and gas levels found in the basement and on floor-1. Companies evacuated the home and requested the gas company to respond. Crews were unable to shut off the gas service to the house due to the meter being frozen. Command requested Ladder-246 to respond to the scene for additional fans for ventilation. A box was struck for manpower. Crews were able to control the leak with the assistance of the gas company within a half hour. Occupants were allowed to return to the home once the leak was contained. No injuries were reported.
