On June 21-23, Geoff Holt, Art Camosy, Jeff Shokler and I were guests at New Mexico Skies resort in the Sacramento mountains of southeast New Mexico. I had dreamed of going to NMS for years and was finally able to make it happen this year, and recruit a great group of fellow amateur astronomers to join me. We elected to drive as a money saving effort, so we spent approximately 26 hours in the car on each leg of the trip, driving a total of 2880 miles. With only three nights of observing at NMS, this gave us a pretty arduous schedule over a five day period.
Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate and our 3 nights yielded only about 2 hours of quality NMS skies, and I got only a small handful of usable photos. Even so, the trip was loads of fun with time spent with friends and seeing a good chunk of the country. I plan to do another trip to NMS as soon as the calendar (and budget) permit.
