Moonlight Tetons

Jackson Hole, Mormon Row

The Grand Teton range and the John Moulton farm, perhaps one of the most photographed scenes in the vicinity of the Tetons. This shot was taken around 12:30 am, July 11th. The illumination of the foreground and mountains is entirely by the 13 day old (nearly full) moon. This type of night time photography is extremely difficult, even by the demanding standards of astrophotography, and I'm still getting a grip on how to handle the enormous levels of illumination created by the bright moon blazing all over the sky and landscape. This is a 30 second exposure, ISO 2000, at 28mm and F3.5. The camera was on an equatorial drive to track the stars with a separate shot (drive off) to capture the foreground scenery.
