I think another good entry (as an additional entry, not to replace this one) would be if you could somehow crop the image to isolate just the little girl with her umbrella :-) That would probably require some fancy cloning work but I think the result would really be cute. She's a doll!

After looking at them all a bunch of times, I agree, so I put the black and white back up. The pink version is here: http:/ /www.pbase.com/stfchallenge/image/96123100 (remove the space to follow the link).

I started this image out in Lightroom and then went to Photoshop and then saved as jpg. Maybe the two Adobe products talk to each other in their own file format and I have to specify sRGB if I want it. What I'm guessing is that Lightroom is the cause of the changed colour space.

Yes arbitrary, your image profile is now sRGB and looks exactly the same in Safari and Firefox; nice work! I don't know why the embedded profile was not sRGB when your workspace is set to that? Maybe the profile didn't match your workspace when you opened the image in PS and you failed to convert it to your working space at that time? I don't know, but I think the best thing to do is to keep the status bar display set to "Document Profile". If the status bar is showing sRGB when you save the image, then it's in sRGB (even if left untagged) and will display correctly (browsers will assume sRGB if not tagged).

I think I changed the colour profile to sRGb, (although when I look in the EXIF it still says -1) . I loaded Safari, and now it looks the same in Safari and IE. My workspace in Photoshop is set to sRGB so I don't know why it puts out images in another colour space. Do I have to use "Change to Profile" on everything I post?

Although I still prefer the b&w, I think you've done a nice job with this color version arbitrary. My goodness, that little girl is soooo cute! The only problem with the profile not being sRGB is that the pink color will only show if the viewer is using a color managed browser, such as Safari. If the viewer is using a browser that is not color managed, such as Firefox, most of the pinkish color will be lost. You might want to check this web page out...

Here's what I got after following bottle's advice, (except I forgot to change the colour profile to sRGB.) The green version is now in the demo folder : http:/ /www.pbase.com/stfchallenge/image/95903788 (get rid of the space to go there). The idea of the pink is to show the little girl's mind, and it was the original colour of the umbrella. Two votes for the black and white version so far though. Oh...the method I used to get the green version was split toning in Lightroom.

Not sure what method you used that caused that greenish look arbitrary :-) Try just adding a new empty layer above the b&w Background layer (let's name it "pink"), fill it with the pink color and change the blending mode to "color". If that leaves the walk area too white, add an empty layer below the "pink" layer. Fill this new layer with 50% gray, change the blending mode to "luminosity" and lower the opacity (way down) until you get the pink color in the walk area. If desired, you could now add a layer mask to the 50% gray layer and paint out anything you don't want that layer to effect. Also, before posting the image, change the profile to sRGB for non-color aware browsers. As for my choice, I really prefer the b&w version. However, I know it's fun to play in Photoshop and it's a great way to learn as well.

hmm...well I don't want it to look green. It's supposed to be one colour. That would be pink and black, right? Can anyone give me a quick tutorial on how to do this better?
Roger DeBris 20-Apr-2008 04:16
Definitely the b&w. This one comes off as pinkish-green which I don't think works for this image.

I thought I'd try a pink version. The original black and white is here: http:/ /www.pbase.com/stfchallenge/image/95824239 I have a friend who hates me to take polls, but I'd be interested to hear which version you prefer. There's a space between the two slashes after http: because pbase wouldn't let me post a link.
