Dissected specimen - approx 10 mm across frame. DOF was tight even at f/18.0,
and this is a composite of two images, necessary to get adequate focus spread.

Alopa - I'm afraid Pink Floyd is a bit off my beaten track (more into classical/opera), although I gather that their lyrics were often written with intelligence and depth. But I've an affinity for trivia and do enjoy coming upon these coincidences, likenesses and so on, so thank you for passing on this reference. In the same spirit, I give you "Misalliance", one of the songs of the late Michael Flanders and Donald Swann, superlative yet genteel British satirists of the sixties (and still often played today). Mike your entry remaind me the film Pink Floyd The Wall. Dou you remember the outstanding scene where a couple of flowers confront each other?. They seemed to be fighting but their movementes had some sexual connotations..., do you remember?. This was excellent, like this photo!!!

Thanks folks. Lora, you're spot on with your comment about "something beyond the discernment of the human eye" and it's what really interests me with this. The first time I entered it, quite a while ago, I called it "Hidden Colours", and I continue to marvel at the intricacies of form and colour that abound in nature, but which we never normally get to see - in this case not just through size alone and the need for magnification, but through the most fascinating region of this having been largely hidden from casual view until other parts were removed. It's a reminder to us all about the staggering extent (though, frustratingly, not the importance) of biodiversity - and even this doesn't even begin to scratch the surface - and the crassness of those who can't see a "green" environmental interest as signifying anything beyond things as large and obvious as trees!
