And I was so sure it was a TV tube Dale!!! Great entry for the challenge, sure fooled me!

For all that are interested, I've posted an image of the entire device in the demo gallery. Dale

Guess it's time to "fess up" and tell what it is. This device is called a Tetrode and is used as a high voltage switching device in x-ray generators. (Get the "transparent" tie in?) It switches about 150,000 volts on and off hundreds of times a second. It weighs about eleven pounds, is loaded with solid copper and is about eight inches tall. Dale.

Very nicely captured! Love the color and perspective. Helen

Okay, it's time to take a guess. I'm going to say that this is the neck part of a TV picture tube (or computer monitor). After removing this tube, the little glass tip was broken off for safety reasons. Breaking off the tip allows air to fill the tube, removing the vacuum. If this was not done, and the tube accidentally got broke, someone could get hurt from flying glass during the implosion.

I'll go with vacuum tube too. Could be a sci fi illustration.

I love what you did with this image!!! The colors and translucency are wonderful. My DH thinks he knows what it is but like bottles, I will hold off saying.....for a while ;-))

Cool shot - it looks like one of the old vacuum tubes that used to go in electronics!

Nice shot Dale and a neat idea for the challenge! I'm pretty sure I know what this is but I'll give others time to guess before saying. I will add that it looks like a possible danger, normally associated with these, has been professionally eliminated :-)
