2nd Place
There's One in Every Crowd

by Helen Betts

Arlington, Virginia

Doing Christmas shopping at Whole Foods and this orange pepper display really caught my eye. While I was debating if you were allowed to take pictures there, somebody took one of the peppers, much to my dismay. So my husband, who was running interference for me with the camera, found a yellow one (after trying many too-fat peppers) to put in its place.

Helen,
Great shot! Maybe you are on the store's video camera! I'd love to see you in action.

Thanks, again, everybody! Inframan, I'm sure it was quite a sight when I was trying to surreptitiously shoot this display above my head, LOL. The market's produce people were all around doing their job, so I made my husband stand on whatever side they were on to block their view of me. At one point he wandered away to get some vegetables I wanted, and I made him come back to be my shield. Then of course, whenever I'm in a situation like that, my camera settings were all wrong, and so on. Anyway, I finally got what I wanted and went on with my shopping! Helen

Beautiful in all ways (but roast before eating...)
I wish I could have seen you shoot this. My wife got scolded for taking photos in a posh Seattle supermarket. ;-)

Shooting up? Wow...they must really be stacked up there carefully. Nice shot, Helen. MFC

Thank you all for the comments! Actually, Mike, I hadn't noticed the missing stem; maybe I should change the title to "There's Two...", LOL. And in fact I was shooting up; the display was at the top of the vegetable section. Helen

Helen, I really like how the yellow pepper breaks the orange display here. I also like how the one orange pepper lacks a stem too. Your perspective is really effective for this shot, looking down on the many. Nice color, clarity, and lighting, Helen...nice photo. MFC

Neat shot, Helen - and the yellow pepper is a wonderful surprise element. It just makes me smile. Merry Christmas, and a belated welcome back to the States. Bev
