Key Largo - B&W Demo

Per request in the Exhibition gallery, I tried a B&W high-contrast treatment of the Key Largo photo. I was trying to make sure I kept Bogart's face in focus, but wanted to get the dark tones amped up.

I'm not great at B&W treatments...so I have no idea how successful it is. Any comments are welcome - if this treatment is good, or if I should go lighter, darker, less or more contrast, etc.

Hey Justin (sorry for calling you Jordan below, no idea how that happened ;) ), I forgot to mention the contrast in this version... I really do like it, it just gives the image a neat, antiquated look. Adding grain just might work too, maybe not too coarse tho! Definitely go with pure b&w! If I caused you to ponder, how about linking both versions (and/or a 3rd pure b&w one too) in a solo dpr thread, see what kind of responses you get? Sorry for the dilemna man, just thought your shot deserved some experimentation ;)

Martin...thank you. I am on the fence about putting the color or the B&W in the exhibition...fortunately I've got time to decide.
So do you think this would be cleaner if I took away the tint and went to pure B&W? What about the contrast and grain to make it look more noir-like...too much?

Jordan, thought I'd comment here instead of in the gallery. I think I'd prefer the b&w, though this image is tinted. I think it would really give off a noir effect. Can't argue either way though, it's just a personal thing, I love either version of this shot!
