Friends I

Friendship is the hardest thing in the world to explain. It's not something you learn in school. But if you haven't learned the meaning of friendship, you really haven't learned anything

Thanks very much Stéphane.
I’m excited about getting close to what I’ve been trying to do, which was to emulate the feel of 35mm HIE IR film.

Notice the kind of aura around the kid’s outlines? HIE does that naturally and I kind of stumbled on to a technique for getting it. No one really knows what causes it with HIE IR film. I’ve read several diametrically opposed theories and speculation about what causes it, but it’s there almost all the time. I see it in many IR film shots.

Cheers for now

Hi Peggy,
Thanks so much for your comment. I used the F828, IR (nightshot mode) with a Wratten 87c filter(late afternoon). In the post processing the EXIF data got lost.

wonderful image, Jules -- I like everything about it and the quote as well. Which camera did you use for this shot?

Thanks Mike, I'll do it.

I didn't consider the dial up folks.
I've had cable so long I'd forgotten what a hassle loading big pics is.

Cheers

A very nice portrait of these four friends and a great quote. The warm toning really adds to the feeling of friendship. Glad you included the story about them asking you for the portrait. -Michael

True, Jules, there is indeed the "large" option. But it's also the option of dial-up users who choose to browse at "original" for other valid reasons to decide, after waiting a while for this 632 kB image to partially load, whether the exception you are asking of them is likely to be worth their patience. You're also not doing justice to this fine image by letting PBase resize it, since the compression is quite severe (degradation varies with image content). Thanks ARN,

These were some kids that were at the local park on a sunny Saturday afternoon. I was taking bridge and river shots when they asked me to shoot them.

Just click on "Large" in the line below the image, that will bring it down in size.
What you're seeing is the "original" size.

On my pbase account it comes up in the "large" size instead of the original.

It's a nice b&w image and I really like the quote. Could you replacede this image with a smaller image? It's asier to view (standard is max. 800 pixels on the wide side). If people click on the smaller image sizes to fit the image to screen, that will make other images look too small. It's most convenient if all images are viewed at "original" size. -Arn
