Üçhisar, Cappadocia, Turkey

This is Üçhisar Castle in Cappadocia, one of Turkey's most popular tourist destinations. Cappadocia is a fascinating area, featuring unusual volcanic formations, "fairy chimneys," dune-like rocks, entire underground cities, and early Christian churches, monasteries and residences situated in rock formations. I don't think I expressed myself properly, Helen. What I meant was shoot right from where you already were, shoot the same vertical image but compose the image so that the sky plays a MUCH larger portion of your image than the grass and trees do. In other words, the bottom most part of the image would have been (in my framing) the bottom of the structure and the sky would have filled the balance of the top of your image. Sorry I didn't explain myself right. :-) Markjay

Yes, I agree, Mark -- I would have liked it composed that way as well, but seeing that the theme of the challenge is wide angle, I think that would have turned it into a telephoto image, wouldn't it have (at least if I haf cropped it that way)? FWIW my original idea was to shoot much closer to the castle and do a wide angle looking up at it, but unfortunately that wasn't possible. Helen

Fascinating scene / structure, Helen. I'm envious of your ability to find some of the most interesting image subjects and scenes. Your world travel is a boon for your photography hobby :-) I love the image exactly the way it is now but, I would also enjoy the image immensely if the scene were MUCH more heavily composed / weighted with the sky and stone structure being the only things in view! (you know me, everything has to be simplified lol) Markjay
