Cheryl, The reality is so much less dramatic than the pic. The father and two sisters are sitting on a blanket on the left and out of the scene. The kids mother was walking with him. I saw the scene with the light streaming down between the leaves and waited until the mother was obscured behind the tree on the left of the kid. Once she was hidden from the camera I snapped the pic. The shot was taken in Forest Park in Queens.

I get a knot in my gut thinking about this ... the shot fills you with emotion. It's scary to think that this HAS happened to children that age ....Oh... this pic has a ton of emotion to it.... great
