When the building housed the library, the circulation desk was positioned directly under this cutout in the ceiling. At the top of the dome is a stained glass skylight. On a sunny day, the librarians needed no other light source to work at the circulation desk. Unlike the present light colored walls, floor, and ceiling, the library had the traditional dark wood everywhere, including hardwood floors. To see the librarians at the desk with the light from above was quite an inspiring sight.
