Bamboo Grove
by Helen Betts

Okinawa, Japan

This was taken at Futenma-gu, a Shinto shrine located in the Futenma neighborhood of Ginowan City, Okinawa. I went there looking for traditional Japanese architecture but just wasn't happy with any of the silhouettes I shot. Then I happened to see this window (two windows, actually) that looked out on the shrine's bamboo grove. I think the worshipers who were there thought it was a bit strange that I was taking all these pictures into a window pane, but then foreigners are a bit strange anyway, so they went on with their ceremonies and I kept on clicking. FWIW it was a pretty overcast day, so not much light was hitting the bamboo.

Helen: I knew this was yours before I saw your name attached...for some reason it reminds me of the one you entered in the last challenge which did so well...47 generations ...or something like that. Fremiet

I like this very much, Helen. Love the way the bamboo shoots upward alongside the verticle silouettes and then crossed by the horizonal. Nice tones to the bamboo garden and textures. Very nice exposure. Bill B

Very nice, Helen...I really like how this window silhouette pattern overlays the bamboo grove...making it an interesting composition to view...I have a small bamboo grove in my own yard. Nice image and good idea. MFC
