2nd Place
The Rotunda

by Helen Betts

Washington, D.C.

Taken at the US Capitol. The Rotunda sits below the main dome that is the symbol of the US government and is filled with enormous paintings depicting the history of the United States, statues of its heroes, friezes, incredible tiles and the like. Unlike 20 years ago, I had to go on an organized tour to visit it; I think the tour guide was a bit annoyed with me as I was busy taking pictures while she was explaining the significance of what surrounded us.

For my original idea and a full view see http://www.pbase.com/helenpb/image/109586450 -- I haven't decided whether to enter this one or not; my friends and family find the partial view far more interesting, but I like the entire dome as well.

Your way of looking at the "Rotunda" shows you've seen a lot of mosques in your "former life", Helen... ;-)) -- db.
