Stone Wall Fort
By Ernest

South Africa

During the Anglo Boer War the British built many stone forts to keep an eye on the Boers. This one is in perfect condition & begged to have its picture taken today :-)

There were many deaths here as all over the country when the British tried to break the Boer's spirit. The only thing that eventually broke their spirit was when the Brits created concentration camps. Put all the woman & children in the camps, burnt the farms, forcing the Boer's to surrender.

Great shot - I like the perspective, the rocky textures, and the black/white conversion!

Nice shot and composition. Feels lonely and a bit haunted - though I don't know if any battles occurred on this site. Still a stark reminder of the far reaching effects of European colonialism and the skirmishes it brought all over the World.

Nice shot, Ernest. I like the perspective from shooting up at it with the rocks in the foreground.
