The Land Gate
by jrdu

This is the gate by which Baha'u'llah was conducted into the prison city of Akka, (modern day Akko). The people of the city, who had been warned by the Muslim clergy, and city officials of the "evil" nature of the Baha'is, came out to mock and scorn "The God of the Persians". That night because of the privations of their travel and because no food and water was issued to them, two of the Baha'is, two brothers, died in each others arms. Baha'u'llah's daughter fainted and lapsed into a coma. The only thing that could be found with which to attempt to revive her was brackish water from the prison floor. Despite the horror of this environment, Baha'u'llah said that when he entered the city, "Upon Our arrival, We were welcomed with banners of light, whereupon the Voice of the Spirit cried out saying: 'Soon will all that dwell on earth be enlisted under these banners.'"
