The Carson Sink is a large and fearsomely blank piece of real estate. It also served as an 80-mile stretch of the California Trail; starting in the 1840s thousands of pioneers made the trek south and west from Fort Hall in what is now Idaho, including a large number of Forty-Niners and the ill-fated Donner party.
