Carson Pass is named for the famous Kit Carson who discovered the pass when leading the John Fremont expedition across the Sierra Nevada in 1844. It is just a few miles south and west of Lake Tahoe.
At 9000 feet in altitude the going can be a little slow. The out-back hike to Winnemucca Lake is 4 miles total with an altitude gain of 450 feet.
The area is known for wildflowers but I missed the peak by a week. I still got some good shots. I know nothing about wildflowers so I'm going to ask for help in identifying them.
