Schrove Monday in the Kara Sea, which in 1883 was on the 5th of February. A Danish tradition has it that you fill a barrel with goodies and a cat (which they probably had to do without on this occasion) and the "game" is that you beat, one after another, on the barrel with sticks until it breaks and cat jumps out and the goodies fall to the ground - to be grasped by the "beaters".
