The trilobite-like larvae of Arescini leaf beetles are adapted for life between the folds of rolled-up Heliconia leaf shoots, with a flattened, suctioning body and dorsally-positioned spiracles (the oval structures on each segment). They graze on the leaf surface, creating meandering trails of damaged tissue. This individual is facing to the left.
