Moth-Butterfly, Macrosoma subornata (Hedylidae)

Bellavista Cloud Forest Reserve, Prov. Pichincha, Ecuador

Butterfly or moth? Members of this family have traditionally been treated as moths because they look and behave like moths (nocturnal). However, evidence from recent studies suggest that they are closely related to the Papilionoidea, which include the butterflies and hesperiid moths (skippers).
