Sawfish (Pristis sp.) rostrum

The bottom-living sawfish uses its highly sensitive rostrum to locate buried food via electroreception. Rapid slashes of the saw stun or injure prey, and are also effective as a predator deterrent. The teeth on the sawfish's rostrum are modified denticles.
All seven extant species of sawfish are critically endangered.

Class Chondrichthyes // Subclass Elasmobranchii // Order Pristiformes // Family Pristidae
