Indeed I did reach down to check this little guy. I was afraid it was stuck or worse. Happy to say that this sheep was not stuck; I could move my fingers easily all the way around its neck. Turns out this is a strategy to be first in line for the sheep chow that the farmer delivered shortly after the picture was taken. The other sheep can be seen in other images in this gallery, packed together and jostling for position. It was a very warm summer day, so they were panting with the heat. Except this little fellow. With its underside against the damp mud, it was cool as a cucumber...or at least as cool as somebody wearing a growing fleece coat in mid summer can be.
