2009 Maryland Governor's Cup Yacht Race (Chesapeake Bay)
These images are from the 36th annual Maryland Governor's Cup Yacht Race, an overnight sailing race covering a 70-mile course from Annapolis, the modern capital of Maryland, to St. Mary's City, that state's colonial capital. It began just before sundown Friday July 31 and ended the next day in the late morning.
Once more for this year's race, my hosts were George and Kim Anderson, aboard their wonderful 12 meter J-Boat sloop BOUNDLESS. Thanks again, George and Kim!
Winds were good at the start, but died down around midnight. But we missed the storms that passed thru earlier that day. After midnight, the winds were light for the most part, until mid-morning when we reached the finish line near St. Mary's City.
