OK, 'JD' started the dialogue and questioned the 'correct' RSR chassis number for the 73' RSR featured in this photo gallery as I have the same chassis number duplicated here too https://pbase.com/slidevalve911rsr/911rsr_factory_1973_rsr_sn9113600328_daytona_winning_peter_gregg

Can you help with any information to possibly clarify and confirm the correct chassis number on this particular 911 RSR? More photos would be good too. Thank you in advance for your posts and remarks.

that GTO was badly damaged, i've the pics

I think 0686 is the car the fell off a trailer between Monterrey and Mexico City. The tub was really smashed. The tub sat at the Porsche/VW dealership Tlalpan Motors for months after having been stripped for spares.

I own a Cesarini oil painting of the #59 Brumos Porsche. I believe it's from Watkins Glen. It was painted prior to 1978. I'd greatly appreciate any information, especially regarding the driver and artist. Anyone? Thank you.

Hi Marco,
The long tail group 5 driven by Rebaque at Le Mans 1974 was the chassis 911 360 0686 as confirmed by John Starkey.
The car chassis 9113600328 R4, after Daytona was probably used for test by the factory and then sold in Italy, the car dosn't go back in America, the Rebaque car was 0686.

911 360 0686 was dismantled in Mexico in the 1970s, parts and title were sold to the present owner, who is rebuilding the RSR.

Hi, does anyone know if this is the long-tail group 5 car driven by Hector Rebaque at Le Mans 74? Number 46, sponsor was Viceroy, DNF.
If so, anybody has a picture of the group 5 Martini version, prior to being sold to Rebaque??

Porsche 911 2.8 Carrera RSR Prototype.
Production number : 1033678
Only 8 prototypes have been built.
Factory Prototype nœ4 called R4.
Built in december 1972 / january 1973
Color : White Grand-Prix / 908 Glasurit. BRUMOS COLORS
Body specification : RSR Thin Body / glass fibre bonnet, bumpers and extensions
Engine : 3.0L Prototype twin plug with hight butterfly Compression ratio 10.3 : 1 Valve diameter intake 49mm and exhaust 41,5mm Exhaust manifolds had a diameter of 43mm Reinforced clutch plate an pressure plate
Suspension : Shock absorbers Bilstein Stabilizer bars : 20mm in front and 22mm in rear Torsion bars, 22mm in front and 26mm in back.
Transmission : nœ 7931014, Five-speed with oil pump and limited-slip differential
This car was send by the factory for the 1973 Daytona 24 hours ( 3 and 4 February ), the first round of the FIA World Manufacturers Championship 1973.
Collected from New-York docks on 19 th January 1973.
The car ( nœ59 ) race with Brumos colors and was driven by Peter Gregg and the young Hurley Haywood. Result : 1 st!!!
The car returned to the factory at the end of february.
The mission of R4 was accomplished.
Later modified as a "Martini" car.
Sold to Italy.
Sold to William Sala ( Modena ) in 1978.
Restored and upgraded as 935 with twin turbo engine.
Sold in 1988 to Sir Pietro-Luigi Di Monteverdi ( Milano / Italy ), still present owner.
Since 1998 collect 2.8 RSR parts for restoration to the "1973 24 hours Daytona" configuration.
Start restoration in 2004 in Italy. R4
Project for 2008 / 2009 : Vintage racing with Jean-Pierre Jarier ( F )and Paolo Duberti ( I )

Hello JD! It has been a while since you made this post and sorry for not replying sooner. I did move the photo of the 1973 RSR you mentioned (sn 911.360.0668) to this photo galleryhttp://www.pbase.com/slidevalve911rsr/911rsr_factory_1973_rsr_sn9113600668 in hopes that someone can confirm and verify the number.

Hello Armando,
In my humble opinion the picture on the Daytona/Sebring poster is neither the Daytona nor Sebring winner. The rear wheel areches are of a different form and much wider. So I suppose that it is a picture of the RSR, later in the season.
On the other hand I do think that the long tail RSR is chassis number 668. It did take part in the Can Am race at Watkins Glen on July 22 th with race number 58, and afterwards it did take part in the 6 Hours of Watkins Glen on July 24 th, but then carrying the traditional Brumos racing number 59 (photo 2 and 3 are clearly form the 6 Hour race). I have my doubts about the first photo as I do think that it carries n° 58 and therefore would be of the Can Am race.
Hope that this will add a little to possible discussion.
