Hi Julio,
Yes, I am Rafael's other sister. If memory serves me right, there was a Cushman Bakery and a pork store where the best cold cuts were bought. I believe this was on the NW side of 64th Street. there was also a bar on the corner, where Thelonius Monk(Jazz Great)use to hang out. He had 2 nephews named, Peanuts and Bubba. He also had two nieces named Sissy and Charlott. Again, I remember you as being a very quiet and studious young man.
God Bless you and all the AMSTERDAM CROWD.

I think the candy store next to McGirr's was called, Jimmy's. It was owned and operated by Jimmy Finnegan. Does anyone remember the special ice cream cones he sold? The cone had a rectangular-shaped top and the ice cream was shaped like a log. Mmmmm :) My favorite comics were Richie Rich, followed by Little Lulu and Tubby.

There was another candy store on Amsterdam Ave and 60th st. It was called "Ashes" by us kids back then. I think that name came from the really cheap toys you can buy there. The toys would fall apart as soon as you played with them.

I don't remember this as much as the SE corner where there was McGirr's bar and grill, a drugstore, and a soda fountain/candy store which sold Little Lulu comics, my favorite. You could get an ice-cream soda for 25 cents, an egg cream for a lot less. My uncles would give me a quarter a week, and I was able to get a fudgecycle, a devil dog, and a comic for that.
