Lake Powell is huge, with over 2000 miles of shoreline, surrounded by rugged red rock landscapes. It's hard to believe that it didn't exist 50 years ago. It's creation started with the construction of the Glen Canyon Dam, which began in 1956 and took 10 years to complete. The lake itself took 17 years to completely fill for the first time. Today it's a popular recreational destination for water enthusiasts.
We boarded two powerboats to tour the lake. This was the smaller of the two, and it would suffer from engine problems later in the afternoon, forcing us to make a slight change in plans.
