It's been almost three years since the Peachville Fire burned the desert landscape in the Silver King Mine area. With all the winter rain from 2007 and 2008 it was very lush. A lot of flowers were blooming--mallow, brittlebush, chicory, banana yucca, hedgehog cactus and others. It was amazing seeing the plants that had survived the fire. There were cactus that were severely damaged, but had quite a bit of new growth at their crowns. The giant saguaro that I saw in 2006 and wondered if it would survive because it was so badly damaged was still alive and all healed up, though very scarred from the fire.
