Out on the verandah

This old piano must have cheered the spirits of the miners, many of whom were far from their homelands.
By the early 1900s and throughout the life of Sons of Gwalia Mine up to the mid-1960s, a large proportion of the miners were Italian or Yugoslavian.

Once managed by the President of the United States, Herbert Hoover and established by Welsh Miners....see the movie Red Dog and this fabulous image comes to life. My Grandfather went to the West to mine for a short while too in the late 1800's
