This is perfect for B&W! Excellent use of light and excellent composition! Very well done!
Walter Otto Koenig17-Jan-2010 01:48
Great perspective, lighting, details and tones. I must agree with the comment regarding the cropping. There's so much interesting detail in the center, the sides seem distracting in my opinion.

Yeah! It's all been said :)

Nice Crisp BW. Well Composed...V

It's a great shot with strong contrasts!I would do away with only the right side, because I feel that the repeating pattern along the left adds to the strength of the composition. Nice feeling of depth and modernity. Well done.

You were asking in the forum about BW discussion: This is a fine example that works, I have a feeling that in color this would be quite a busy image, lots of surfaces and textures. In BW the idesa is to strip the image down to its graphic soul, allowing only the interaction of light, shadow and angles/curves portray ALL the information. Architecture works so well in BW, it is the essence of BW. Landscapes are tougher to do well, as you have to elevate your compositional skills to a whole different level in order to build a strong message.

On this image, I am with Smit10pics, I believe the interesting bit is BETWEEN the two pillars and would crop both sides away to focus on that section. The right and left sides are only filler and don't add to the image at all.
still, great job...

Strong B&W image. Great lines, very good light and conversion. Vote.
Stewart Mitchell16-Jan-2010 22:36
Love the richness of the tones and some very strong lines :) I wonder if it may be an even stronger image in square format with the right hand side cropped back to the pillar??

Oh Sheila, this is a perfect subject for Black & White. Excellent composition. I have been a bit sad that you find monochrome tedious. This image should make you feel very good! V

Great B&W image Sheila!!!! Nice composition and light.
Doug Cruden16-Jan-2010 14:00
Superb! I forgotten to mention in my forum post response to your question that B&W is really suited to bringing out the beauty of shapes of all kinds, and this wonderful shot illustrates this exactly. The repeating pattern at the left really holds the eye in the frame, while the two upright pillars provide a wonderful tunneling effect for the eyes to go down the terrace....fantastic shot! BV :o)
Heidi Jonker16-Jan-2010 12:24
