The Making of Dancer Magazine Cover Story Shoot

I had the opportunity to shoot with Richard Calmes again, this time with the legendary Paul Taylor dancers, for the cover of Dancer Magazine. This behind the scenes look shows Richard setting up from scratch, and also wider shots of the dancers and lighting setup. I know I was interested to see this and I'm sure a lot of his fans will appreciate this insight.. Lighting conditions for this shoot were very challenging. The shots of Richard setting up had uneven and multiple lighting sources, including dim fluorescent lights. The studio shots of the dancers were all done at iso800...I couldn't use flash for these shots because my flash would set off Richard's lights.. When I did my own dance shoots, I nearly died because of the logistics!!!

You must have been honored to be included in this, Kent. As always, Richard does a wonderful job of translating the beauty of dance to the viewer. You do your usual magic and show us the background and hard work in getting these shots. Like architectural 'before and after' shots, your images allow us that much more insight into how to make striking photographs.
