Caneel Bay, St.John. (June 2 and 3, 2009) Our first destination chosen by David was Caneel Bay on St. John. Interesting details about St.John are on St. John History, St. John Traveler web page or on other sites of a similar character, however web sites seem to have a short life span. Charlotte Dean Stark wrote the book "Some true tales and legends about Caneel Bay, Trunk Bay, and a hundred and one other places on St. John", which seem to be out print however. Caneel Bay is now mainly the home of the flamboyant Caneel Bay Resort, from where we took a taxi to Cruz Bay Town, the main town on St.John. According to David, the buoys in Cruz Bay are all private and they do not welcome visitors. That would make Caneel Bay the best place to stop in order to visit Cruz Bay. To our eyes the most impressive place in Cruz Bay was the "Mongoose Junction", a charming collection of shops and restaurants in Caribbean flavor. Architects of Mongoose Junction tried to copy the Danish style of using small colorful stones in mortar. This looks really unique. Many rain showers came upon us during this evening, but the nature gave us a break with a brief magic sunset in magenta tone. Early in the morning playful deer ventured to the shoreline and provided us with a stunning visual. |
