Sailing a Catalina 30 from Marina Sailing Club,
Newport Beach, 15 Aug 2008 We were very happy to have made contact with this club. We like to sail in these waters, we ought to find a replacement for the former Club Nautique South and SeaTime, once operating on Balboa Island and at Via Oporto in the Lido Marina Village. Our online search brought us to Marina Sailing, which has not less than six locations in Southern California. The Newport Beach location used to be in year 2008 on 121 Agate Ave, in the heart of the Balboa Island. Approach the club from the alley between Agate Ave. and Pearl Ave. Most yachts in club's fleet have slips next to the Balboa Ferry landing. This location provides sailors with several good opportunities to get fresh made food in a wide range of prices. Proximity to the ferry allows even to park on Lido Peninsula, where parking space might be more easily available. Otherwise, hope for a free spot somewhere along Park Avenue... Balboa Island can be really busy and crowded. It is a hot destination. Weather was just right for a pleasurable slow sail with lots of visuals. Newport Bay presented itself in the usual splendor, and there was the usual commotion on the water. We took the Catalina out of the bay and sailed along the never ending beaches filled with people having fun, all way to Huntington. Upon return we cruised Newport Bay and saw several weddings on cruise ships. After the sail we watched the perfect ending with a purple sun setting behind the horizon. |
