Deshnoke Rat Temple

Just thirty kilometres away from Bikaner is the town of Deshnoke, where there is an unusual temple dedicated to rats, who are believed to be the reincarnations of people. I like rats, generally, but was surprised to see how scabby-looking these were.

For those who want to learn more about Karni Mata, a famous mystic born in Deshnoke and believed to be an incarnation of the goddess Durga, here is a website with more information.

Some of my photos are now available to buy in a variety of sizes and finishes, or as digital files, at Serenity Photography.
