West End and Bucktown After Katrina

I post these Katrina galleries not to show the misery and sadness but to record history.
West End is on the New Orleans side of Lake Pontchartrain and a canal known as the 17th Street Canal separates it from Bucktown, a fishing village in Jefferson Parish. West End was famous for its seafood restaurants over the water and for its marina and residential boathouses.
The day after Hurricane Katrina the floodwall on the 17th Street Canal broke and sent billions of gallons of water fed into Lake Pontchartrain from the Gulf of Mexico into New Orleans, creating a nightmare that will go on for years. The area known as Lakeview was under several feet of water for almost three weeks. Meandering its way around the water flooded Old Metairie and the Metairie Cemetery.
